Giant Steps has really made a name for itself in Australia's Yarra Valley with its fantastic Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. With Melanie Chester leading the charge in winemaking and viticulture, this winery is all about celebrating what makes each vineyard special. They craft wines that are all about elegance, balance, and just the right texture, bringing out the cool, unique vibe of each location. For more than 20 years, they've been showing off Australia's knack for exceptional, cool-climate wines.
Giant Steps’ winemaking style blends nature and science with their gravity-flow cellar. This method gently guides wine through each stage of production by relying on gravity to move wine from a higher elevation to a lower elevation. For instance, the fermentation tanks are 9 feet above the ground. Instead of using pumps or other mechanical devices to push the delicate Pinot Noir juices and skins into the tank, they carefully lift the bin of juice and skins up and over the fermentation tanks with a crane to let gravity do its thing. This careful (almost tender) approach avoids harsh processing and will maintain subtle flavors. Giant Steps’ innovative gravity flow winery is the perfect representation of their dedication to crafting lovely wines that truly showcase the natural beauty and richness of the Yarra Valley.
