About Us

Family is our Greatest Natural Resource

Family Owned. Crafting wines of distinction since 1982.

A family business and a family passion, Jackson Family Wines is a collection of world class wine estates located in iconic wine regions in California, Oregon, France, Italy, Australia, Chile, and South Africa. We believe the care that goes into making our wines is as important as the quality of the wine itself. Our founders Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke established Jackson Family Wines with a vision to build a family wine business that would stand the test of time. This means taking the long view when it comes to investing in quality and caring for the land, our employees, and our communities.

Inspired by the long-held belief that only great vineyards produce great wines, our family-owned vineyards are in winegrowing regions cooled by coastal fog or wind to grow grapes with depth of flavor and natural balance. Our wines have their own distinct style driven by the terroir of our family-owned vineyards and the creativity of our winemakers. As our family of winegrowers has expanded over the years, we’ve stayed true to our uncompromising pursuit of quality and commitment to building an agricultural heritage for future generations.

Our multigenerational approach to crafting wines means that we farm our lands according to our values and make responsible decisions for the health of our lands and communities. We’re also working to adopt a restorative winegrowing strategy that will regenerate our shared natural resources. Looking forward, we are developing ambitious resiliency goals for 2030 and beyond that aim to redefine sustainability in agriculture, with a focus on regenerative farming practices, holistic land management, water stewardship, and social impact.

All of our vineyards in California and Oregon are third-party certified sustainable. We leave most of our lands unplanted, which protects thousands of acres to preserve biodiversity. Native trees and riparian corridors surround our vineyards to create habitats for wild species such as beneficial birds and insects that naturally control pests.

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions

Since establishing a baseline in 2015, we’ve reduced our greenhouse gas intensity per gallon of wine we produce by 37%. We’re working towards our 2030 goal to reduce total emissions 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2045.

International Wineries for Climate Action

In 2019, Jackson Family Wines and Spain’s Familia Torres co-founded International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) to galvanize the global wine industry to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate impacts in vineyard and winery operations. IWCA winery members are unified by a shared goal to reduce total emissions 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2045. To learn more, visit

Renewable Energy

We’re the largest generator of onsite solar energy in the U.S. wine industry, producing 8.6 million kWh of emissions free, renewable electricity across 11 wineries per year.

Water Conservation and Reuse

Water is essential to making great wines, and we’ve worked hard to do more to manage and conserve precious water resources. Since 2008, we’ve reduced our winery water intensity 59%, which is equivalent to saving 31 million gallons annually. As a leader in water management, we only use 3.68 gallons of water to make one gallon of wine.

Carbon Farming Trial

We’re the first wine company in California to explore the scalability of carbon farming (sequestering atmospheric carbon dioxide in the soil to reverse climate change) in a working vineyard through a collaboration with the California Department of Food & Agriculture.

Zero Waste

We’ve been re-imagining our relationship with what we discard, finding new ways to recycle, compost or return items. In 2018 our wineries achieved a 98% waste diversion rate.

Giving Back

Each year, our company supports more than 200 non-profits each year working to build stronger communities and our employees across the world have volunteered more than 20,000 hours in our local communities since 2016.
