Captûre
Captûre is all about that frontier spirit that characterizes California. Since 2015, winemaker Sam Teakle has been crafting exceptional wines from remote, high-elevation vineyards within Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, and Lake County appellations. Home to abundant wildlife, these vineyards are perched on ridges, slopes and benches of the Mayacamas Mountains up to nearly 3,000 feet in elevation. Their infertile, volcanic soil stresses the vines and leads to wines with great concentration and intense flavor.

The Power and Elegance of Mountain Fruit
With his high-altitude wines, Captûre winemaker Sam Teakle is shining a light on one of California’s newest, highest, and most remote viticultural areas: Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA. Arid and windswept, the AVA looks like a moonscape. It rises to 3,000 feet in elevation, or two-and-a-half times the height of the Eiffel Tower. Cold winds, rocky soils, and intense sun stress the vines, producing small chandelier-shaped clusters with tiny berries of intense color and flavor. Captûre’s Pine Mountain Sauvignon Blanc is among the highest of its variety planted in the United States. Try decanting it (yes, you can decant a white wine!) to reveal its elegant, rocky minerality.
From Down Under to Above Fog Line
If Captûre embodies a pioneering spirit, then winemaker Sam Teakle's free-spirit personality is a perfect fit. Growing up in Australia, Sam became curious about wine while driving with his parents through the vineyards of McLaren Vale. After studying winemaking, he worked in France and California. He then returned to Australia to work at Yangarra and Hickinbotham, which led to the chance to work with Chris Carpenter in Napa Valley and Graham Weerts in Sonoma County. In 2014, he became Captûre’s associate winemaker, throwing himself energetically into the pursuit of raising the profile of Pine Mountain. Sam has worked more than 20 harvests across Australia, Greece, France, and California. In his free time, he likes to mountain bike, hike and ski. What can we say? The man likes mountains.
