Description

We are thrilled to offer this limited release, purchases are limited to 3-bottles. Situated high on Howell Mountain, above the fog line at 1,600' of elevation, Winemaker Chris Carpenter believes the dense volcanic soils and temperate climate are ideal for growing high-quality Merlot. With a structure similar to Cabernet, the La Jota 2016 Merlot showcases dark ripe berries, black cherry, and espresso bean. A broad textural impact charms the mid-palate and classic Howell Mountain minerality drives the long, opulent finish.

RECENT TASTING NOTES
North Coast Part 1: Napa Valley’s Incredible 2016s One of the top Merlots in the report is certainly the 2016 Merlot Howell Mountain from La Jota. This fabulous wine boasts a deep purple color as well as a true “wow” nose of blackberries, ripe cherries, spice, bay leaf, and ample savory, complex herbal notes. It’s medium to full-bodied, has a layered, balanced style, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Drink it any time over the coming two decades.
